Kingston Ontario offers a variety of medical services in numerous locations. They include Emergency Medical Services, a Children’s Medical Clinic, multiple After Hours Clinics, and a telephone service to provide medical advice.
Emergency Medical Services
There are two hospitals in Kingston that handle emergency medical services; Kingston General Hospital and Hotel Dieu Hospital. The Kingston General Hospital has an emergency department that is open 24-hours per day. All critically ill patients are immediately taken to this hospital by ambulance. As a result, this emergency department is very busy and patients who are not seriously ill should expect long delays before they receive treatment.
The Hotel Dieu Hospital also has an emergency department for patients who are not critically ill. As a result, waiting times are shorter. The hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days per week.
Children’s Medical Clinic
The Hotel Dieu Hospital also operates a Children’s Outpatient Clinic (COPC) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday. Appointments or referrals are not required. Treatment is received our on a first come first served basis or is on the basis of medical urgency. Treatment and advice is given by Pediatricians for routine care or for acute illness.
